Can I do this (database app)?

I am thinking of jumping into Android phone development based on how Basic4Android seems to simplify things rather than learn java first.

My question is based on a idea I have for an app that would require doing lookups on a remote hosted SQL database - possibly MySQL. Can I connect and interact with a remote db using this SDK? Any limitations on which popular SQL dbs are supported?

Internally Android (and Basic4android) support SQLite.
