Android Question Changes in designer aren't showing up in emulator

i.e When you click the name of the button on the left side in designer does it not select on the emulator??
Could it be covered by something else?

In the designer if you click on the name of the box it selects it on the right hand side in the graphical designer but no in the AVD emulator. I want what is shown in the designer on the right hand side to show up on the emulator when I click the RUN button.

Press on F2 to connect to a device / emulator.

It only changes the audio level on my laptop.

F2 shouldn't change the audio level by default.
Check your laptop keyboard. Maybe you have a switch to change the function keys between normal mode and Fn mode in the wrong state.
If no Fn switch but a Fn key exists maybe this key hangs.
