Android Question length of Android_Id 15 i.s.o. 16

I am using the function GetDeviceId to have a unique number for each device.
Normally I get a string with 16 characters.
Now a have a tablet and I get a string with only 15 characters back.
How is that possible? Does this happens on more systems ?

You shouldn't assume anything about the structure of the id.
