To boost trust and transparency on Google Play, we're expanding developer verifications as part of our Play Console requirements policy.

To create a new Play Console developer account for an organization after August 31, 2023, you'll now need to include:

• A D-U-N-S number for your organization: Provided by Dun & Bradstreet, a D-U-N-S number is a unique nine-digit number that is used globally to identify businesses. Google will use your D-U-N-S number to verify your organization.
• A contact phone number and email address for Google Play users: These will be shown on Google Play so that users can contact you. You'll need to verify them by receiving a code.

To help you prepare for these changes, we recommend reviewing your Dun & Bradstreet account to make sure that it's up to date with the latest information about your organization.

Developers with existing Play Console accounts will also be required to provide this information soon. We'll give existing developers plenty of notice to verify their accounts, and we'll send an update about these requirements later this year.

You will need a 3rd party ID from an American commercial company that sells (collected) data, credit & risk information and does sales & marketing to others. ?

Sorry, but I already lost all trust right on the first sentence, and why the Fick should I be forced to give my company details to an American company, that is nothing more than a man in the middle for data mining? Things are bad, when google can't trust itself to verify their developers.

Google is going to get into trouble in the E.U. for this ?

To obtain a DUNS Number with a Duns Registered Seal (will be displayed on your company’s website) and Business Information Report (please refer attachment BIR sample report for your reference) will be provided to you.

Pricing DRS + 1 BIR​

For whatever it's worth, there is a chance that you have found ONE way of getting that number. Using some method by some organization that is costly. There MIGHT be alternative ways that are cheaper.

I don't remember paying anything at all to get my number. In the very least, ask ChatGPT for alternative ways to get a number?

If I remember correctly, I have something similar in Apple developer account but I haven't renewed the account so I can't access it. Not sure I can reuse the same number for Play store.

You can, assuming you still represent the same company. There exist several places online where you can search for your own DUNS number. They are all kinds of awful and confusing, but it should be possible.

Speaking from my undertanding and my experience

If it's a legitimate business, it could already be listed. I did it again today (after seen this topic) and successfully located my business, receiving my DUNS number via email once more...

For example here i selected the option DUNS for google developer (it should be the same for apple, etc, the important thing is get the DUNS number)

Of course, you can choose to pay external companies for help, but obtaining the DUNS number is free and you can do it yourself.

Even the last changes Google demanded for my developer account reached my pain threshold, to be honest. Google is completely shifting the responsibility for ‘its offers in the Playstore’ onto the developers and still wants to earn money with the apps offered in the Playstore. Well, you have to protect yourself. But if I have to upload a scan of my ID or passport for verification purposes, in which I'm not even allowed to partially and discreetly obscure really personal data, I'm forced to upload a bank statement or a copy of my rental contract, then that's definitely going too far. Google, on the other hand, cannot guarantee me that this sensitive data will be handled correctly. What's this rubbish?
Is it all just to increase the ‘security’ of the offers in the Playstore? Overall, the quality of the apps offered in the Playstore has suffered greatly in recent years and developers are leaving the platform in droves. One more step and I'll be gone too. Nobody is forced to continue to dance to the tune of this data octopus, which discriminates against developers with ever new regulations. The apps on offer in the Playstore are overloaded with adverts and in-app purchases. This is no longer a platform where I want to offer my apps that are programmed without adverts and in-app purchases. The spirit has been lost, it's just pure commerce. Not my thing.

After I replied to duns & bradstreet Malaysia email that I am just an indie Google app developer, the representative sent me an application form in PDF and requested me to submit my company profile so I can get the 9-digit DUNS number for free of charge. I just submitted my application form and now waiting for the process (within 30 working days).

Maybe there is a link between your government company registration bureau with the DUNS provider.
