The art of making money

You can't just ask people for it, they quite rightly have hard-earned it and they're not just going to give it away.

You have to do something that makes them want to pay you for what you've done.

If they want to pay you for what you've done and you sell them what you've done then they are happy and you are happy.

If they have money then they will be looking for things to spend it on, otherwise, what's the point in having money?

Android is mobile phones and tablets, each of which can access the internet via web browsers so what can an 'app' bring to the table that a web browser can't?

Perhaps for mobile phones it must be something to do with the fact that it is with them all the time, something mobile phone-ish, and for a tablet maybe something else?

We know that the Android market is massive, perhaps in the billions, but is the fact that we can make Android apps only going to boil down to the idea that someone, somewhere can see it on google play or Amazon?

To make an app get downloaded you have to make a free version first, lots of people will download it because it's free, then you have to make the same app with more features, the 'Pro' version that people have to pay for.

Nag screens and limitations and perhaps ads on the free version might be enough, tried and tested, to get the serious users to delve into their pockets, reach out their wallets, let the moths out and actually use their credit cards.

It is a fine art

To be honest, currently I see ads on an app only as an annoyance to get people to buy the Pro 'ad free' version.

Yes there was a chap who made a lot of money from ads that equated to a normal job wage, for a while and his app was a piratebay app which had zillions of downloads but Google has since disallowed (anything promoting piracy) but in reality?

Making money from ads is pitiful.

In app purchases? is a nice idea but still, hmmm.

Please feel free to disagree.

I hear that games make the most money? Is this true?

We of course have to put ourselves in the shoes of the potential buyers.

What would we buy?

Most of the ads I see tell me that I need to buy B4a or a Winhost account.

Hey! I have both of these! I'm not going to buy them again thank you!

Annoying and remarkably unintelligent.

While I'm at it, replying to my own posts, think of the app you are going to create.

Will it require a database?

Who's going to keep that up to date?

Keeping a database up to date could be a full time job.

Depending on the customer to keep it up to date will probably fail.

If you can PROVE to the customer that they WILL get $2000 each time they update their database then they MAY allocate an employee to do that each day otherwise forget it.

Screen scraping a customer's website to keep it up to date will only work until the customer changes their website.

All told, a bad idea.

Resulting in stale data and a hard worked app that fails.

Even if you build a super user-friendly updating part to your app for potential customer updating, they won't do it, FAIL!

Think simpler, think ... I don't know, just simpler, be cleverer :)

So, moving away then from that kind of thing, and here is why I ask for a members only forum...

Niche markets

Hmmmm... what would the average joe pay for?

What is comfy for us to program in B4a and could earn us some money?

Phone and Tablet apps:
Easy peasiest is just an app that appears on Amazon and Google Play that advertises the customer's stuff and then opens the default web browser to take them there, then you have an app out there in Android world that perhaps reaches an audience that would otherwise not be reached.
You could sell that.
I made a couple of free ones, just look for speed dating on Amazon or Google Play, it has hearts with the English flag...
Oh, I did another one to advertise B4a, just search for Farstand Data Ltd.

Phone Apps:
Ah, well I did BTInterface, bit of a niche thing but for you?
....and this is really why we need a members only forum ...
What idea do you have? how can you project that to people who use phones? Why should they download and use your app and not delete it?

Tablet Apps:
Bigger screen, usually just WiFi internet... so if they take the tablet away from home they probably don't have internet...

enough for now...

members only forum would be cool :)

I premise that I understand 70% of what you write (I'm not brilliant :) and my English is very limited ).

The topic is: how to make money with our app.

The games: Certainly they are the most downloaded sw (parents , do not give your child a smartphone ) but I guess a statistic similar to the one below:

Total downloads daily: X
Games: 95% (X)

Percentage games downloaded for free: 99.99%
Percentage helpful app downloaded for free : 95%

Also, I read that there are programmers happy to have earned $ 850 in six months with 7 free apps.

I still have not published an app, but I am sure that I will not do for free!

I prefer to use it only for me, at this point!

On the other hand, some free apps are certainly viable, otherwise they would not be advertised on television. But surely they do not earn through AdMob or similar.

(I hope Google Translate and my attempts to correct have been sufficient to explain)

Take a look here about income reports on android apps:
http://forums.makingmoneywithandroi...do-you-have-how-much-do-you-earn-per-day.html

What concerns me I think that banners ads are annoyance especially in games so better to use only interstitials , beside this it gives more money. Also a good idea to use ads that are in context of your app , for example Avocarrot or Kiip. So the app will be clean and interesting for users.

I have a good idea for making money :) remarkably simple.

Erel says that the 'test my app' forum is for registered users only but I can't find it.

We have a lot of brain power on this forum (apart from me) so I think that if we put our heads together we should be able to come up with something now that Erel has given us the tools.

P.S. LM your English is very good!

IanMC, thanks for my english but it is OUR english (google translate and me, hehehe).

The problem is not the power of the brain (since you're here, you certainly are not stupid); I think that it is in discovering the arcane secrets of the big software houses, that offers free apps and spends millions on TV ads.

(I have not been able to reply directly to your post)

Thank you LM, yes, you mention big software houses etc.

I think you address the issue wisely.

Try to find my post which is under 'share your creations' and then through a back door that only we can access :)

'test my app'

Please join in.
