Hi.

So actually, i have some question(s) about how did you guys make it to get much downloads.

I mean - have you used some site advertising? Or you just uploaded it on the market and done?

Also, how to make someone click on my ad?

And finally,

do you use B4A admob, if yes, do you enable AdSense?

I started publishing my app as a free app on XDA before I finally published it in the Market. I wrote about my app in various forums to make it known. I believe I got many downloads due to these reasons and then because it is actually recognized as a good working app. :) However, my app is a bit particular. Maybe you can blog about your app somehow to give it more publicity?

I can't force any users to click - just hope they will do it. I don't like the idea of putting controls nearby widgets which may make a user click on your ad by mistake. I believe these users will get annoyed and don't use your app anymore.

In AdMob, I filtered out certain categories. In this way, I hope most add delivered might be of interest. Yes, I added AdSense. However, these ads are not generating much revenue, probably due to Adblockers. I will go for a Lite and Pro versions.

Good luck.

Hmmm. I've posted about my app on two forums, which i believe got me 100-200 downloads.

Blogging is great idea. :)

I am unsure if it's better to make interesting ads (small chance to get these) or better make an 'Help Us' and in there write that you will help alot by leaving
a rate on android market and by simply clicking the ad:
[ad here]

How do you think? I think no one actually clicks the ad because it's interesting, but to help the author(s).

Lite and Pro? What do you mean?

Thanks for sharing :)

Well, in my "Release Notes", I explained that I added ads as an experiment and if they wanted to help out, they could click on some ads. This may have generated a few clicks but still I believe most of my users are using either cooked ROMs where the hosts-file has been modified (all ad-URLs pointing to Local Host) or that many users have rooted phones used together with AdFree (an adblocking app). In this way, they don't even see the ads.

With Lite and Pro, I mean a free app with limited features and a Pro-version which is a pay-app.

I think you will always need internet advertising for your app or nobody will know about it.
I have not published any apps yet but here are the steps I think I will take:
1. Upload Beta to market
2. Promote Beta on forums (like b4a,xda) to get some feedback on the app so you may change it if users feel so.
3. Wait a while so all problems are ironed out and you find out what devices are not supported etc and then update the app to final.
4. Have a website/blog where you promote it. Get backlinks with other developers. (Maybe we should have a section for that in the forums).
5. Start promoting your app on various internet blogs. For e.g. start with Android sites like androidcentral, androidpolice etc etc, there are a lot.
6. Wait a while to get feedback. Then promote it on more bigger blogs like lifehacker, addictivetips, techcrunch. Okay, maybe going tooo far but well, you have to try. Also if your app is related to something (for e.g. medical) so try promiting on those websites.
7. When you are finally out there, you can also try getting on the featured list. Im not sure how though.
8. I have also noticed, the more you update your app, the more downloads it drivers.

Not sure what else you can do...(maybe use social media:FB,Twitter)

Just to add another side, I didn't advertise my app anywhere and it's 50 downloads away from breaking 8000 in just under 3 weeks. Truth be told I'm not overly sure if that's good or not though lol.

Ad revenue is roughly 70 cents a day from admob. Not a great amount but combined with the 'pro' version (60 downloads in 2+1/2 weeks - no advertising it anywhere) it's paid off the cost of buying my android dev account with about £15 profit.

Be a millionaire in no time! :D

Lucky you... Poland ( i live there ) cannot sell apps :(

Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge :)

After 3 weeks my app/game has 500 downloads, 33% active installs and 0.49$ income overall... :(

8000 downloads (is a lot) and 70 cents a day. I am just wondering if admob is a viable earning platform at all?
Sounds like google is making all the money from advertisers and not passing on the profit, same as apple does in itunes only the revenue stream is different.
May be worth trying Mobclix or something else?

On the other hand Google gives us a lot of free services we can use in our programs, a free operating system (Android), etc. Somewhere the money must come from to finance all of these things. I think it is only legitimate.

I have no doubts they will. After all they earn 30% on each app sold.

As with most of their services they start off in the US and then add other countrie one by one, like for instance maps navigation was a long time not availabe over here.

After more than a year Google Voice is still not available in the UK.

I think Kamac, you cannot depend and just wait on google to do that. Better to find a friend/partner from another country who can help you.
So far from the research I have done paid apps will still make a lot more money than admob ones.

What is the trending section? You have suddenly had a lot of installs recently, is that because of entering the trending section?
Is Admob worth it on your app?
...btw cool app

I've found one, but i don't like fact he wants to take 50% off sales and ads and all he does is just place it on the market :(

I guess i have to stick to free apps with ads :(

Hi,

Thank you... it does feel nice :D

Trending apps are those that have high downloads recently.

You see sudden boosts on my apps coz i released some updates on them.

Admob has been great so far, just wish there are other alternatives. They sometimes close accounts unfairly.

Will share more once i am back from holidays. Not much fun typing on fon :p

Cheers to all!
