Have you guys seen the new Microsoft's augmented reality holographic project?
I'm pretty excited about this product, it finally starts to feel like we're living in the future!!

All these technologies are just fads, they come and go, they just become "hot", "must have" and "amazing" depending on how much money is spent on advertising and hype.

There are indeed many fads that come and go, but this looks pretty amazing and promising.
In my opinion, Virtual Reality could be mainstream in 10 to 15 years, ever present in our lives.

It's all about scale and comfort. We carry in our pockets 1000x more processing power that the world's fastest computer in 1945. No one could ever imagine the digital revolution would take place a few decades later. Once we have figure out a way to scale things down to something 100% similar to a regular pair of sunglasses or contact lens, VR will be here to stay.

"1000x more" in a figurative way.

VR has been around for a long time, mainstream? I really doubt that, hey, I heard that email will "eliminate" the use of printers and paper...I rest my case your honor. :D

Personally, the only difference I see between this and Google glass is the user software. And on that end, GG are way more fashionable.

I never said VR will replace anything, I only said I might become mainstream once it's reduced to a comfortable size, barely noticeable.
Glasses will never be as comfortable as a fully functional 3D projector (if it's ever created), but at least there are people working on it.

"Email" hasn't eliminated the use of printers but has certainly reduced it. Nowadays you read the news online, when was the last time you actually spent money on a newspaper to read yesterday's news? ;)

Finally, I just want to share a small episode from my life in 1997.

Me: "Dude!!! There is this new thing I found on the Internet, it's a new file format called MP3. You can save an entire song from a music CD in 2 floppy disks!!!! It's amazing!! This will be the future!!"
My best friend: "AHAHAHAHAHHAH!! Come on Bruno, that's impossible!! CD quality in floppy disk!! AHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!! You're ridiculous! I'm not falling for that!"

Personally, the only difference I see between this and Google glass is the user software. And on that end, GG are way more fashionable.

For me, Google glass is way too ugly and intrusive. That's just my personal opinion, but I don't think it will ever go mainstream. This technology is way more sophisticated than Google's, at least graphics wise.

This looks cool and it's meant to be used at home in your pijamas, on a cold rainy Sunday. Hell yeah!!

This looks ugly and it's mean to be used outdoors. That camera there makes you look like a pervert, trying to record some POV porn.

If I'm going to be looking goofy wearing those things on my head, I rather wear THIS :D
NJDude, we have to keep in mind that HoloLens is a home product.
Come on... we all look goofy when alone at home:
