LucaMs Expert Licensed User Longtime User Dec 4, 2016 #1 Many programmers who publish their apps on Google Play earn very little by advertising (see this thread). So I was curious about how Whatsapp (it was sold for $ 19,000,000,000 !!!) makes money. I found this article: http://unicornomy.com/how-does-whatsapp-make-money/ in which: How does WhatsApp Make Money First thing to note is, that when we are online (connected to the internet) we generate some tera bytes of tera bytes of data on every moment on a daily basis. This data includes user habits of shopping, keyword research, content interests, reading interests, watching interests etc. When you send messages over whatsapp, the messages first route through servers of whatsapp (where they are stocked and analyzed for various content present in it) and then to the receiver. This server actually is a smart code which analyses the data based on the content used. This data is then passed on to facebook for effectively putting targetting options in their ads which are priced higher than the general type of boosts (try putting a target based and the moment you try to narrow it down the price per click goes up). The things we share on WhatsApp reflect our interests, likes, dislikes. Well, from all this I suspect that programmers who publish etc. are exploited: advertisements that they show are not paid enough. Last edited: Dec 8, 2016

ilan Expert Licensed User Longtime User Dec 8, 2016 #2 I think the price for whatsapp was way to high. I guess they have bad negotiation guys in facebook. they have should hire donald trump for the negotiation. This app is not worth more than waze in my opinion even with the enorm number of users.

Erel B4X founder Staff member Licensed User Longtime User Dec 8, 2016 #3 I think that Facebook was very smart to purchase Whatsapp. While technically Whatsapp is not very interesting it is more popular than any other messaging tool and like Facebook itself it is a "winner takes all" case.

My oldest daughter is almost 10 years old. B4A was released on December 2010. Basic4ppc is indeed older. If you are nostalgic like myself then you cannot forget Basic4ppc "parent" which was developed in 2004: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-graphiccalc-1-1.html
