I am sure everyone has seen this:

B4X:
New developer verification requirements from August 31, 2023

Aug 3, 2023 11:00
To boost trust and transparency on Google Play, we're expanding developer verifications as part of our Play Console requirements policy.
To create a new Play Console developer account for an organization after August 31, 2023, you'll now need to include:

A D-U-N-S number for your organization: Provided by Dun & Bradstreet, a D-U-N-S number is a unique nine-digit number that is used globally to identify businesses. Google will use your D-U-N-S number to verify your organization.

A contact phone number and email address for Google Play users: These will be shown on Google Play so that users can contact you. You'll need to verify them by receiving a code.
To help you prepare for these changes, we recommend reviewing your Dun & Bradstreet account to make sure that it's up to date with the latest information about your organization.
Developers with existing Play Console accounts will also be required to provide this information soon. We'll give existing developers plenty of notice to verify their accounts, and we'll send an update about these requirements later this year.
Read more in our blog, watch this PolicyBytes video, or register for a policy webinar - available for multiple regions (Global, India, Japan, Korea, South East Asia, or Indonesia).

WOW - a Dun&Bradstreet number costs $229 and that I would also be required to have a phone number (another phone)

Are they trying to put the small developer out of business????

holy cow a DUNS just like apple? that is painfully slow and bureaucratic, they can take months and do it with third party that just wants to grab money from you. awful.

Unless something changed from about 5 years ago, you can get a free D&B number, but it will just take a long time (a few months) - the "paid" process will get you it much quicker.

Years ago when I contacted D&B, they tried to get me to pay for it, but I just kept insisting that I wanted to register for free, and they eventually started the process and I obtained one after a few months.

Yes, it is possible to obtain a free registration number, called D-U-N-S Number, from Dun & Bradstreet.

The D-U-N-S Number is a unique nine-digit code assigned to each company listed in the Dun & Bradstreet database to allow for its unique identification and to relate it to other companies,

The D-U-N-S Number is used in various sectors worldwide to accurately identify companies.

The process to obtain a D-U-N-S Number is simple and free.

The Dun & Bradstreet is a private company that evaluates the solvency of companies and provides financial information.

The D-U-N-S Number is required to register a medical device or a food product with the FDA and to import food products into America.
It is also used to create a profile as a publisher in the Apple store and publish an app.

To obtain a D-U-N-S Number, you need to provide some information about your company.
It may take up to five business days to assign a D-U-N-S Number.

I got my D.U.N.S number FREE when I was switching my Apple Developer Account from Individual to Corporate. It took about a month to be ready. I even had a call from them to verify my information.

I don't think that Apple requires this.
It does for Organization Account. As I stated in post #6. I registered as individual they did not require DUNS number. With that my individual name shows on appstore, but when i wanted to change it to my business name, one of the requirement was the DUNS number for the business. With playstore, you can just change your name anytime.

Requirement as stated on apple page for organisation enrolment

Step 1
Choose the option that best fits your company:
 • I have a U.S.-based business
 • I have a Canada-based business
 • I’m an Apple developer (? maybe so no obvious context though)
 • I’m a U.S. Government Contractor or Grantee
 • I need a UFI to register with the FDA
If you're part of the rest of the world what do you select? I guess we would all be individuals???
