Android Question Google signed apk and GPGS sign in failure

I have enabled app signing by google play for one of my projects that uses the Google Play Games Services API and now the only way that I can debug any changes i make is to compile a new release, then download the "derived apk" from the artifact library and install it. I believe that i am experiencing the same problem described in this thread.
https://www.b4x.com/android/forum/threads/google-play-game-services-error-3-code-10002.104964/

is there anyway that I can use the information contained in the "App Signing Certificate" or "upload certificate" or some other source to avoid all these extra steps....

so many version numbers have been killed senselessly, well into the double digits by now, and all the result of one ignorant developer armed with a fully loaded Play Console. Maybe with your help v1.86 could live to see open beta

Thank you Erel. Not perfect solutions but definitely an improvement. I am still a little puzzled on how I enrolled myself in google app signing from your post here: https://www.b4x.com/android/forum/threads/google-play-app-signing.91703/#content it would seem that enrollment wasn't something that could be done accidentally, and I am quite sure that I would have remembered jumping through the additional hoops listed in that post. Is it possible that google made enrollment as easy as just pressing the enroll button? If so they should make it clear that enrollment will complicate the debugging process for those using additional API's. thank you again for pointing me in the right direction and I appreciate all the time you take for us.
