Android Question Label does not wrap in old android version

I hope this wasn't answered before, but I could not find it.
I wrote a simple test that fills a label with a long string.
The label was created in the designer to be narrow but high.

I added a long text and it neatly wrapped in my Android 5.x device, however,
when I run the same prog. in an 2.3.3 android phone, it does not wrap.

Maybe the wrapping feature is added to android in a later version.
Sorry but i dont have any REALLY OLD device to test it

The app is going to replace an earlier one that is in the play store right now, and 5.6 % of current users have android version 2.3.3 to 2.3.7
The old app had word wrap in what I presume are labels, but I don't know how that was accomplished.
Are you suggesting I abandon some of the current users?

Maybe some has come across this and has a solution?
