Would B4A be a good tool for writing fast paced arcade type games with lots of moving sprites and sounds etc?

I can see the myriad of business implications in which I am very interested from a professional stand point. But I also like to write games as a hobby. I'm thinking of buying Monkey CoderMonkey for games development because it covers so many platforms. The Game Creators' "App Game Kit" which isn't available yet falls short because you can't develop for Android.

Allright. So, i found B4A by TGC. You will be able to develop for Android on AGK soon. Also, i've heard bad things about Monkey.

So, normally i would consider purchasing TGC's App Game Kit, but it has so much limitations, which are as follows:

-You pay 30% to TGC and 30% to the store off your every sale.
-You have no additional libraries such as B4A has, like Phone lib or Camera lib.
-It's 80$ and i've bought B4A for 39$. 2x cheaper.

LOL

You have several good points there.

As I mentioned, I like to program games as a hobby only. I have several games that I've written, started, and never completely finished. Check out Welcome to CoderLaureate.Net I have some of my partial games there.

So since I already dropped around $99 for the Enterprise edition of B4A, I think I'll stick with it *mainly*. I might get crazy and buy AGK when it comes out. We'll see. I still have to learn all the ins and outs of B4A.

They'd have to close you in prison for psychos ;)

Here's why:

App Game Kit cannot place ADs from Google Admob.

And here's a compare from B4A:

Paid app, around 17 purchases in two months for around 10$.

Free app with ads, 500 downloads a day, 400$ in two months.

Guess what's better when you don't make big games :)

Aha, App Game Kit doesn't support creating 'applications' with XML look (You know, Android buttons, checkboxes etc.)
also App Game Kit won't have networking for looong time. I wonder if they will ever have 3d.
Their cross-platform is nonsense, only iPhone and Android are useful from all these.

Edit.

Oh by the way, nice page :)

Just a question, what is for you the difference between a Canvas and an ImageView ?
To draw something to somewhere you need a Canvas. This Canvas can draw directly onto an Activity, or onto a Panal or onto an ImageView.
So there is no difference to look between Canvas and ImageView.

Best regards.

Easier in what ?
It depends also on what you want to do.
If you need any user intervention, Activity and Panel could more convienent because of their Touch event.
As soon as you need to draw something you need a Canvas.
I dont think that drawing onto an ImageView is faster than drawing onto a Panel, but anyway the question was between a Canvas ans an ImageView.
What I find very interesting in B4A is that the views like ImageViews or Panels can have a transparent backgorund and set either to visible or hidden so you can play with those as layers. Showing or hiding them, moving them with different speeds and so on.

Best regards.
