Good afternoon to all,

two years ago I have got a descent Android Phone from Samsung for almost 200 EUR. Realizing that my phone's life even after two upgrades from Android 10 to Android 12 is getting towards the end of life (being enough for development) I decided to check the prices for a new phone. "These Gauloises are crazy" was my reaction to what I saw. In just two years the prices have doubled and searching in the gsmarena.com for the capabilities I would like my phone to have, the prices start from almost 400 EUR. Is this me or is this world getting totally out of control?

"These Gauloises are crazy"
As a french heavy smoker I know very well this brand of cigarette ... first time I see this phrase, unable to find any meaning of this on Google translate.

Give it up NOW. My partner just died from pneumonia on top of lung cancer and it's not a nice way to go. ?

She never smoked in her life but shared an office for many years with two heavy smokers.

Hey don't check only these prices.. if you go at supermarket buying for example cheese greek feta from 7 eur .. 13.5 eur..

So there is big problem ? generally

I always thought that the sentence was in the opposite way ... "These romans are crazy" (if you are refering to Asterix/Obelix, since they were gallic)?
(With due respect to LucaMS and other roman members )

I suppose I have got it wrong. I think this is what I heard in an Asterix/Obelix movie: "Ces Gauloises sont fous."

I hope there will not be any deplomatic problem with the Romans ???.

I know exactly the feeling. Before a little more than 2 years, two people in my house, we were passing with almost 80EUR a week for the supermarket. Now, if I get to the lowest step of 130EUR I am more than happy.

South Κorea (for Samsung) though has great diplomatic relations with Russia and I see of no reason why their energy would get high (in order to use it for their industrial production) nor their shipping transportation.

I always explain it to myself differently.
The prices are ok, I just earn less. ? ?

This is a huge step for mankind towards relativity (almost). ? I am glad you take it so lightly, because huge problems tend to shrink big time, when you turn them into jokes. I would say it differently. There is a Greek proverb that says: "Either the coast is under slope towards us or we are sailing under slope towards the coast".

The picture of the packet you posted is quite helpful for me (I mean the helmet with the wings). I suppose I heard it correctly.

But you get double battery life, double cpu performance, double or more cameras, etc.
I used to get a MYR500+ Xiaomi Redmi few years ago and recently I switch mobile package contract and get a free of charge MYR500+ Honor with Android 12. My fiance got a MYR900+ Samsung phone but the features are lacking compared to my phone. She got a Samsung due to company requirement to install enterprise Intune management tool. If no restriction better get away from Samsung. I think MYR500+ is around EUR100+.

As I can see, prices have gone up everywhere not only for phones but also for everyday things.
I have Motorola for 3.5 years. She had 3 years of updates in the Andoird One program (there is no such thing anymore). After 2 years, I had the batteries replaced with a new one at the service center for $30, but the battery life will soon be over. As my Motorola 3.5 years ago cost about $ 250, now I would have to spend about $ 400.
Now, I think Samsung and Google Pixel give more software update support if you want to buy a phone for several years. In Europe, Samsung throws its Exynos CPU, which, as you know, is worse than Snapdragon, Pixel, however, does not have its own distribution in my country and you have to download, for example, from Germany.
So now I actually have to spend twice as much on a phone than 3 years ago. But Pixel is becoming more and more convinced only because it has more support from Google and later XDA.

Thanks @aeric for your answer. The fact is that I buy by tradition Samsung since I realized they have the Samsung Cloud in which you can backup your phone and restore it to a new Samsung Phone (not having to reinstall anything from the begining or repass the contacts). Ok, I know you will say that you can do this also with a Google Drive account through Google but with the Samsung Cloud it does not remove from you valuable space in your Google Drive account to store the backups.

I always bought cheap "chinese" phones... but last 4 years buying at least 250€+ phones like Samsung, XIAOMI...

Samsung for me gives much more updates than other makers... so this is something good for developers like us.
XIAOMI are very good phones too... but have less updates than Samsung...

but... for the "topic" --- prices not raised only because Russia, raised because not enough materials, because covid19, because cost of transportation (this seems that disappearing... last big-orders from asia came cheaper) and because some guys playing the "house-of-cards"... i think we are just ants for them and give to us some sugar to run faster and work better.

Ya, we are having shortage of chicken eggs. There are some "smart" politicians come out with the idea of importing eggs from Thailand or India but as you can guess, the eggs are more expensive or double the price of local one but smaller in size.

Samsung Cloud
I get it. Cloud storage is very convenient if you want to switch to new phones.
If you are comfortable with Android, you better stick to it. I am having issue with WhatsApp when switching back from iPhone. If you are switching from Android to iOS, then it is fine but not the case if switching to Android from iOS due to WhatsApp for iOS only use Apple Cloud to backup the chat history. Luckily I have another SIM card so I keep both WhatsApp accounts.

XIAOMI are very good phones too... but have less updates than Samsung...
But I dislike Samsung and never bought one, one reason being the UI look bad compare to Xiaomi.
