Future of a forums

Hi guys,

With AI technology, forum like this and others, in the future may be become less and less useful.

I was playing around with AI for coding hints and found it it was pretty accurate if the programming language are famous.
Sometimes it was not accurate but gave enough direction for you to solve the problem.

Tried chatgpt, gemini and copilot, here are the preliminary observation :
  1. chatgpt, gives straight answer, simple and to the point
  2. gemini, sometimes not give the simpler/accurate solution, but the descriptions are pretty extensive
  3. copilot, between those 2.
For me, the most advantage of AI is speed, you get your answer right away.

Another advantage is, no arrogant users.
In every forums, there are always arrogant and ignorance users, usually a senior member.

Pretty sure, same fate will happen to programmers also.

Kind of sad, but it is a reality.

AI will tells you that you are always right and turn you to become the arrogant person instead.
It won't scold you because it has no intention to teach you to become better person or programmer.
Not everyone can accept his own mistakes but if he does, he will learn.

I hope that this forum feels a bit more fun.
I disagree. I'd prefer a forum that doesn't contain jokes. For example, I write only very serious posts; I NEVER joke!

Never completely trust AI, that's for me.

How come AI make me arrogant? I asked and it answered, as simple as that.

It told me something new, so that's made me better programmer indeed.

I didn't asked about B4X though, asked about C++.

I just started a new project, that if it ever sees the light of day, will be a nice tool to have for B4a users.
I started the project by brainstorming with Copilot (my to go AI) and once I was satisfied with the projects definitions, I came to the Forum to search for existing libs/code to use and explore. So, in my humble opinion ( the world famous IMHO), AI will not kill forums, the lack of user interest and/or interaction will!
It's up to us to keep it alive!

I cannot answer completely the second question, but when I ask something that I do not understand in an already given answer to a previous question I always get something like "you are absolutely right..." . This is kind of ego pumping I believe...

Two kinds of objects do not easily turn in a corner. A vehicle and a human. That is a bus and Luca when he says "I tell no jokes" 😄 😄 😄

I forgot to write one fundamental thing: I am also ALWAYS sincere.
😂

A few minutes ago, I lost a very long chat with Copilot.
I have the code it generated, full of errors, of course. Unfortunately, the code alone isn't very useful; the logic, the rules we established, etc. are indispensable; the most valuable part of the chat... lost.
Strange, because I started it on Monday and until half an hour ago, I was able to recover it simply from the Chrome history, but now those links lead to a new chat.

You could try downloading the app and see if it's there. I've noticed some inconsistencies between the app and the web versions.

Must have been cached by Chrome or locally then.
On Copilot Web, you can clearly see that the last part of the URL is an ID string. Unlike before, using that URL now creates a new (and obviously empty) chat.
I'm not much of an expert on this, but since I had the Chrome Console open for various reasons, I think I saw a "policy" block (something like that, I've already forgotten), as if they only noticed yesterday that I was continuing a chat that was supposed to be temporary.
It's clear "they" care about you logging in; in fact, every so many minutes a dialog would appear prompting me to do so.

Anyway, with what already generated and a lot of patience and attention to detail in explaining my goal, I'll be able to continue this work; I just need to... decide which AI to use, NOW 😁

Yesterday, just because of its "advertising" dialog on the Google Search page, I tried Gemini for the first time.

It has a major flaw: if you select/deselect "Deep Search"... it opens a new chat; you can't do it in the one you're currently in. Really annoying and illogical.
"Deep Search" also takes a long time to think, much longer than other AIs.

Gemini might be better than other AIs for Android, since it's Google-owned.

Forums, especially B4X Forum are very useful... when participation, partnership, friendship exists (have a good KARMA)... AI can read the forum and answer questions by the experience of users, posting here...

AI is a good utility, that can intergrate it almost everywhere... but can't replace the experience and can't exist without it at the future...

So Forums like B4X are very useful and I am sure that will never replaced from existing Q&A AI chats... but I am also sure that soon will have AI Agents based on our Forum and also AI Code Creators that will be better for B4X...

But all these because of our great Forum... and our great language... B4X

I am more and more heavily using Copilot - for all sorts of things - e.g. I needed to get a better understanding of global shutter cameras advantages/disadvantages vs Samsung S23 Ultra

They are basically Google on steroids - mostly.

When they don't have an answer because they haven't been able to absorb it from the web - then you have to go to the forums and ask.

If a forum response happens it ultimately gets absorbed.

Forums will always have a place and will actually become more important - sort of the resource of last resort.

PS: also used Copilot to track down some tours of Sicily :)
